Die cutting
Die cutting,

Steel-rule dies cut and crease every printed sheet on Bobst and Tsair Shuenn flatbeds — the step that turns flat print into a box that folds square.
A die is a plywood board set with steel rules — sharp rules where the sheet must cut, rounded rules where it must crease. Each board is made to the artwork of the job, so a carton, display box or carrier bag is cut and creased in a single pass, in register with the print. Firstpack runs die cutting in-house on a Bobst flatbed and a Tsair Shuenn flatbed in stock up to 500gsm, with Polar guillotines squaring the stock before the die and four folder-gluing lines seaming the blanks after it. One floor, from printed sheet to finished box.

The steel-rule die
Every job starts as a board of steel rules bent to the artwork — cutting rules for the outline, creasing rules for every fold. On the flatbed the board meets the printed sheet under pressure, and the blank comes off ready for the folder-gluer.
